You and your child will meet funny and exciting characters who will introduce consonants and short vowel sounds. Your child will practice putting these sounds together to make words. When children can “decode” or read words by putting sounds together, they develop a fundamental skill that will help them become better readers.

We begin this series by meeting Hal. Hal is a hippo with lots of hats and an expert on the letter h. Next, Tim goes to great lengths to introduce the short vowel i. After that, their friends focus on consonants (p, f, n, c, b, w, j, z), while building on the skills learned in previous stories. The series concludes with a review of the previously taught skills – and a surprise or two!
