In 1967, an idea was born which became what is now the Illinois State Fair Blue Ribbon culinary Contest. In that year, Ruby Graves, who was demonstrating at the Illinois State Fair as a Power Company Home Economist, felt it would be a good idea to have an amateur Bake-off contest in conjunction with the fair.

That following year, 1968, was the first Bake-off competition and 300-400 recipes were submitted. through the years the contest has changed to some extent.

These are recipes from the winners of the 1993 Blue Ribbon Contest.
